In Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, the traditional matachines dances perform a series of rituals during celebrations dedicated to patron images in domestic chapels that are established in the homes of the heads of a dance group, and this person, with the support of family members, is responsible for organizing and covering the expenses required for the celebration. With the aim of showcasing the rituals that take place there, we will focus on those performed every year by the Royal Apache Dance of san Juan Bautista in honor of its patron saint. It is important to highlight how the members of the host group, family members, and other dances participate in the different stages of the celebration and how these rituals contribute to strengthening dance traditions in the city. The research was carried out within the framework of the project “The recording of the historical memory of the matachín community in Ciudad Juárez through life stories and the use of design, 2023”. The procedure followed was qualitative in nature, focused on ethnographic research through participant observation and semi-structured interviews.
