Culture and nature in the rarámuri communities

The purpose of this article is to show some evidence on how the knowledge of native communities, in the case of the rarámuri, has been marginalized by hegemonic forms of knowledge. In this way, some examples of how their understanding and vision of nature can contribute to the construction of a pluriversal knowledge to establish links towards a dialogue that subsumes the forms of domination within the framework of the epistemologies of the South. The analysis of the concepts of culture and nature, seen from the perspective of the rarámuri communities, will serve as a basis to show the potential of including the subaltern for the benefit of humanity towards an intercultural translation.

Humor and violence in literature from Ciudad Juárez. Humor of bones and sand

In this article we analyze the different types of humor in Juárez literature and how it has sometimes been a relevant element to show the different types of violence that Ciudad Juárez suffers. Far from minimizing the social conflicts that turn the border into a mythical territory to locate all kinds of stories, here we will comment on some works where violence is contemplated with irony and sarcasm, generally to underline the resilience of the citizens of Juárez as well as the disaffection or contempt for them that this city suffers from the rulers. To do this, we will take the poetry and narrative of authors such as Arminé Arjona, Miguel Ángel Chávez or Willivaldo Delgadillo, as examples of those who, through laughter, have created a contemporary portrait of this city.

Tensions in the application of the priorization criteria by the Fiscalía General del Estado and human rights organizations in cases of forced disappearance in Chihuahua, México

The article examines the tensions that have arisen between the Fiscalía General del Estado de Chihuahua (FGE) and human rights organizations regarding the application of the prioritization criterion for investigating enforced disappearances. Through a qualitative methodology —based on document review and interviews with relatives and human rights defenders— the study analyzes how this mechanism, designed to manage institutional overload in addressing the issue of enforced disappearance in Chihuahua, has generated distrust, revictimization, and perceptions of arbitrariness. The study shows that prioritization, based on a technical and quantitative “test,” tends to exclude cases lacking high media visibility or social pressure, thereby reinforcing structural inequalities in victims’ access to justice. The article’s main contribution is to highlight that without transparency, victim participation, and a structural-systemic approach, such criteria reproduce impunity rather than contribute to effective and sensitive justice in the face of the disappearance crisis

The article analyzes the ideological discrepancy between the National Action Party and the New Mexican School and the Common Curriculum Framework for Upper Secondary Education (CCFUSE). The dispute is between linking the school with the community to solve its problems or adjusting the curriculum to labor demands in the context of industrial relocation. To support this, the content of the CCFUSE is analyzed and the events in two linking events convened by the government of Chihuahua are recounted, to form a network of academics that plans the graduation profile of high school students for employability.

Between stars and chalkboards: The legacy of Professor Juana Ursúa in Ciudad Juárez (1899-1902)

The contribution of female teachers to the development of Mexico’s National Education System remains an understudied area of its history. In Chihuahua, research has largely focused on the state capital, leaving the role of women educators in Ciudad Juárez unexplored. This study examines the professional career of teacher Juana Ursua during her tenure in the city with the aim of understanding the political, social, and educational context in which early teaching experiences were forged, and of highlighting the role of women educators from the periphery. The research adopts a biographical-narrative methodology combined with a historical-critical analysis of documentary sources structured in five stages: identification of primary and secondary sources; chronological and thematic classification of materials; hermeneutic analysis of the corpus; triangulation of data with the social and political context; and the construction of a coherent historical narrative that places the individual at the center. The findings reveal that Ursua’s appointment was part of a deliberate educational policy promoted by Governor Miguel Ahumada to strengthen girls’ education in Northern Mexico. Her pedagogical leadership and curricular innovation positioned the Official Higher School for Girls No. 3 as a leading cross-border educational institution.

Pedro de Jesús Maldonado: From his assassination to the restoration of catholic worship in Chihuahua

The religious conflict in Chihuahua was both belated and ambiguously concluded. It reached its most violent phase between 1932 and 1937. Scholarly texts that examine the conflict —as well as those focusing on the life of Father Pedro de Jesús Maldonado— tend to agree that, following his murder, the persecution ceased abruptly and the public practice of catholicism began to resume. There is, undoubtedly, a connection between the priest’s assassination and the reopening of churches, along with the return to ordinary religious life among catholics in Chihuahua. This article explores the impact of Father Maldonado’s martyrdom on both civil and ecclesiastical spheres in the state and analyzes the dialogue between the Church, catholic faithful, and the State as part of the process that led to the restoration of catholic worship in the state.

State Human Rights Program in Chihuahua: Building the framework for human rights policy

This document describes and analyzes the development process of the State Human Rights Program (SHRP) in Chihuahua, empha sizing its significance as a pioneering initiative. The shrp was conceived as the framework or platform for public policy on human rights (HR), after nineteen years of having committed to its development. The analysis adopts the public policy cycle, examining the process through the stages of problem emergence/definition/formulation and decision-making/responses, and establishes the implementation and evaluation for the shrp. The research is based on a qualitative approach based on documentary and journalistic reviews, including materials related to the program’s integration as the initiative, information about diagnostic mechanisms, reports, and the decree published in the Official State Newspaper in April, 2024. The conclusion highlights the importance of shrp as an instrument that acknowledges regional diversity in human rights issues, the necessity of ensuring continuity and effective monitoring of actions as well as the urgent need to incorporate indicators that enable the measurement of progress, stagnation, or setbacks in the advancement of human rights.

Philosophical research about Humanity´s nature is a complex topic because its study main point of interest is a fluctuant being who exists through constant changes. The Mankind is not pure concept that floats in ideas´ heaven. It is a specific language (that exists in a particular time and room), some prejudices (all types of them), a few beliefs, landscapes that infuses of different ways of daily life (weather; earth´s, clouds´, city´s, desert´s, sky´s and mountains´ colours; winds, rain, snow and various kinds of storms), customs, political preferences and local cuisines. Philosophical thought about Humanity have a little validity time, it needs constant refreshing according social dynamics. In this article, we try a philosophical reflection on Juarez´ inhabitant, meaning to create new possible paths, never a highway strait to the Truth. We offer to our reader just a first steps to understand a single question: what, who or how is the Juarense?

Burnout syndrome among basic education teachers:

In 2020 Mexico implemented the transition from in-person teaching to a virtual education model, generating a change in pedagogical dynamics to prevent further spread of covid-19. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome among primary school teachers in the city of Chihuahua, Mexico, in the context of the pandemic and the virtualization of classes. The study assessed risk factors associated with the development of burnout, resilience capacity, and positive personality traits in teachers’ adaptation. The research followed a quantitative approach with an applied, descriptive, and non-experimental cross-sectional design. For data collection, a sociodemographic questionnaire was used along with two standardized instruments: the Maslach Burnout Inventory (mbi), adapted for teachers, and the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale. These tools enabled accurate measurement of burnout and resilience levels in 24 basic education teachers. The results showed that 87.5% of participants reported moderate to high levels of burnout in the emotional exhaustion dimension, 12.5% presented moderate to low levels of depersonalization, and 20.8% obtained a moderate level in personal accomplishment.

Between tensions and learnings: Building a learning community in a public elementary school in Ciudad Juárez

This article presents some findings from a participatory action research project carried out in a public elementary school in Ciudad Juárez, aimed at building a learning community. The experience made it possible to identify structural, institutional, and subjective tensions that emerge when attempting to establish spaces for horizontal dialogue, teacher collaboration, and collective knowledge construction. Through a qualitative approach and a participatory paradigm, the study analyzed challenges such as resistance to reasoned dissent, vertical management of conflicts, institutional rigidity, and the researcher’s own epistemic contradictions. The results show that the construction of learning communities cannot be understood as a linear or replicable process, but rather as a situated, unstable, and deeply human experience. The idealization of school participation is problematized, and conflict is proposed as a constitutive dimension of collective learning. Finally, it is argued that research not only transforms communities, but also the researcher, who must maintain a reflective practice consistent with the paradigm they claim to uphold.

The liminal mystique of Ciudad Juárez

This review analyzes Marlon Martínez Vela’s poetry collection Púrpura liminaria (2021), placing it within the context of contemporary Juárez and Mexican literature. The work is characterized by its hermeticism and its exploration of the space of transition symbolized by the color purple, which represents the blending of dichotomies such as life/death, peace/violence, and reality/fiction. The review highlights how the author draws from both national and international literary traditions and fits within “literatura del norte” (Northern literature), albeit with a distinctive style that combines academic rigor and creativity. Púrpura liminaria not only portrays a city besieged by violence, but also transforms it into a symbolic space of transit and resistance, where the liminal becomes a key to understanding both the work and the reality of Juárez.

Chihuahua Hoy 2025: Open Science and academic reflection from Northern México

Open Science promotes the unrestricted availability of knowledge, scientific methods, and data, removing economic, technical, and cultural barriers. Within this framework, the Diamond Open Access model emerges as an equitable alternative by ensuring free access for both authors and readers, fostering the inclusion of regional and local voices in scientific production. In 2025 the National System of Scientific and Humanistic Publications (nsshp) organized three regional forums to reflect on national policies for scientific communication and open access, and promoting editorial standards that address local academic needs. In this context, Chihuahua Hoy reaffirms its commitment to Open Science and academic quality, offering an interdisciplinary space for regional studies that contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the state of Chihuahua and its borderlands.
