Abstract

Lean manufacturing is a set of tools focused on the continuous improvement of production processes by reducing waste to provide good customer service through quality. This paper presents a structural equation model that relates three lean manufacturing tools (Andon, Visual Management and Just-in-time). This model proposes three hypotheses validated using information from 240 maquiladora companies in northern Mexico obtained through a questionnaire. This article aims to quantify the effect of Visual Management and Andon tools on Just in Time within maquiladora companies. To validate the model's hypotheses, WarpPls 7.0® software is used using the partial least squares (PLS) technique. The results indicate a direct relationship from Visual Management on Andon with a size of β=0.525, Visual Management positively affects Just in Time with a size of β=0.256, and finally, Andon also affects Just in Time philosophy with β=0.373. The sensitivity analysis shows that it is important for managers to ensure that they execute the implementation activities of Visual Management and Andon to guarantee the correct functioning of Just in Time.
