The urban network of Torreon´s Historic Center:
Between nodes, voids, and their impact on urban intensity

The Historic Center of Torreon faces a series of urban challenges, among them the abandonment and fragmentation of its urban network, which has resulted in a low intensity of space use and the increase of urban voids. This research aims to analyze the current dynamics of the urban network of this historic district and propose intervention strategies through the creation of activity nodes and the revitalization of abandoned areas.
Through cartographic and statistical methodology, the urban dynamics before and after the proposed interventions were compared. The main deficiencies of the areas in terms of urban intensity were identified, allowing proposals to optimize the structure of the urban network.
The results obtained revealed that, although the interventions generated certain changes at a quantitative level, these were not sufficient to significantly modify the urban network of the historic center. The current urban network was found to be fragmented and lacking adequate functional integration.
Based on these findings, it was proposed that the solution lies in a profound revision of the urban planning of the Historic Center, which involves rethinking the zoning and urban structure from the ground up. This research provides new perspectives on how to approach the revitalization of the historic center, highlighting the importance of an integrated urban network that allows for sustainable and cohesive urban development.
