Franco Savarino Roggero

Abstract

This paper examines the relevance and usefulness of the concept “political religion”, especially applied to the study of fascist totalitarian regimes and movements. Examining the history and evolution of the concept in the academy, it discusses its current use by researchers specialized in the field, and offers some reflections on the presence of religious elements in fascist regimes, the Italian particularly, and the relation between the totalitarian fascist project and the Catholic Church.
