Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities0188-9834“It’s my only responsibility, and doing it wrong, can you imagine?”: social and subjective gender imaginary in male workers of a transnational mining company in the state of Oaxaca
http://erevistas.uacj.mx/ojs/index.php/noesis/article/view/6543

The objective of this work is to analyze, from a feminist perspective, the formation of the social and subjective gender imaginary of working men in the extractive corporation Compañía Minera Cuzcatlán, in the municipality of San José del Progreso, Valles Centrales region, in the state of Oaxaca. Through semi-structured interviews, the findings show that being a man is closely linked to economic provision and protection of the family. Both of these are combined as a mandate that sustains masculine subjectivity and the social imaginary of gender, as well as the assigned identity and social role. Likewise, mining work is associated with the strength and endurance that the male body supposedly harbors in this work environment, whose conditions are adverse. The strength and resistance of men’s bodies distinguishes the work they do compared to women, even when the technology used does not demand the work traditionally performed by miners; this assumption prevails even in men who perform administrative tasks and in areas other than where the mineral is extracted. What this idea produces is a reinforcement and hierarchy between genders in current mining.
Ramón Cortés CortésAustreberta Nazar Beutelspacher

http://erevistas.uacj.mx/ojs/index.php/noesis/article/view/6714

Voting is important for elections and in democratic systems of government. The consideration of it varies according to societies, countries, times, groups and people. Its study also considers different approaches. In this case, a general approach is made to the conception and assessment of voting according to citizens. Specifically, its importance, respect, trust, information, reasons and motives. All this through some questions from a pre-election survey, and fundamentally, through the testimony collected in interviews conducted in Mexico City, before and after the electoral call on June 2, 2024. This in order to obtain direct testimonies from people, their perception and opinion, expectations and experiences, imaginary configurations and political behaviors, in short, their reflection and feeling on the subject. As a finding, it is possible to say that voting is very important as information is, elections are not respected and trusted, the main reasons for exercising it are the right and democracy, and the reasons, the program and change.
Anna Maria Fernandez Poncela

http://erevistas.uacj.mx/ojs/index.php/noesis/article/view/6708

The objective is to explore the nature of the family entrepreneur in Mexico, evaluating the reasons for creating a family business, its changes, the gender of the head of the household, the capacities, and the possible conflict of undertaking. For this purpose, three samples from the National Household Income and Expenditure Survey (ENIGH, 216. 2018 y 2020), and a Heckit econometric model was developed. The findings show an aspiration under a reasonable lifestyle for the family, and with the intention of developing a business model of limited growth that in the long term is sustainable, viable and without partners. The Mexican family entrepreneur has a medium educational level and a rough experience curve that determines his entrepreneurial action. On her part, the woman shows an orientation not based on need, and contrary to false or temporary entrepreneurship that is awarded to her, understanding that the female does not have a true business vocation.
María Luisa Saavedra GarcíaPablo Daniel Palacios DuarteMaria del Rosario Cortes Castillo

http://erevistas.uacj.mx/ojs/index.php/noesis/article/view/6695

Using data from the National Child Labor Survey (ENTI) for 2019 and 2022, the probability that a child or adolescent is in a condition of child labor is analyzed. For each year, a logistic regression is estimated and explanatory variables such as sex, reason for work, size of locality, region, and whether they received financial support through a scholarship or other government program are considered. It is analyzed whether economic incentives contribute to reducing the possibility of performing prohibited, risky, or inappropriate work. For both years, the variables together are statistically significant; however, in 2019, economic support does not significantly determine the probability of the event occurring. In 2022, economic support influences a decrease in labor participation and all regions, with respect to the South, show a decrease in child labor. The regions that report the greatest marginal change for the last year are the North, Capital, and Pacific regions. Living in towns with fewer than 2,500 inhabitants also increases child labor participation, as well as the fact that children have to work to financially support their households.
Rogelio Varela llamasJuan Manuel Ocegueda HernándezJesús Eduardo López Mares
